MÚSICA DO CÍRCULO'S RETREAT
JULY 2023 - BAHIA / BR
From July 8 to 15 / 2023
Piracanga - Bahia, Brazil
We'll hold the 14th Música do Círculo Retreat at this beautiful landscape by the sea!!
Unah Piracanga, with it's beauties, delights and it's integration with nature welcomes us for another amazing journey of music and human relation with Música do Círculo.

THE RETREAT
A gathering for us to experience music and connection in an immersive way in contact with nature.
The idea is that we get together for a week away from the city to enjoy a coexistence that privileges affection, creativity, cooperation and a sense of community.
Through vocal and body percussion musical practices based on improvisation games, body practices, dialogue and healthy eating the retreat establishes a field of deep listening, trust and playfulness that contributes to the development of musicality, sensitivity, self confidence and sense of belonging.
After coming to the retreat people develop a deeper understanding of the Música do Círculo practice and worldview and feel more connected to the international musical community that has been growing since the first edition of this gathering in 2015.
Since then we have received hundreds of people from more than 15 different countries, including experienced artists, restless educators, people who don't have music as a profession, and masters like Fernando Barba, Keith Terry and Christiane Karam.

FREQUENT QUESTIONS
WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT COVID?
We will not make any demands in relation to Covid, understanding that the responsibility for caring for you and the other is of each person. The use of a mask will be optional. It is important to be aware of the risk of becoming infected, as activities involve contact and singing in close proximity to each other.
WHAT HAPPENS IF SOMEONE SHOWS SYMPTOMS?
In this case, it is recommended that you wear a mask and avoid very close contacts with other people. If there is a need for special care, we will provide the support that each case asks for, but we will not require tests.
DO I HAVE TO BE A MUSICIAN TO PARTICIPATE?
No, but we consider it's important to have the desire and openness to sing, to percuss in your body, to move and interact with the group.
WHAT WILL I EXPERIENCE DURING THE RETREAT?
The activities include "Música do Círculo" circles, circlesongs, body percussion, cooperative musical games, improvisation practices, body practices and dialogue spaces.
WHAT IS THE RHYTHM OF THE ACTIVITIES?
We'll have activities in all periods of the day, with intervals for meals, personal care and socialization. The rhythm is intense but always valuing well being and coexistence.
DO I HAVE TO PARTICIPATE IN ALL THE ACTIVITIES?
You have the freedom to participate or not in any activity, it's just worth mentioning that this is a collective journey and we feel it's important to take the group process into consideration.
WHAT ARE THE ACCOMMODATIONS LIKE?
There are several accommodation options, from collective dorms for up to 8 people to individual suites.
DO I HAVE TO BRING BEDDINGS AND TOWELS?
No.
WHAT DO YOU RECOMMEND I BRING IN MY SUITCASE?
- We'll be in full contact with nature, with all the quality that it brings us. For people more sensitive to mosquito bites a repellent might be a good call, sun blocker is also recommendable because some activities will be outdoors. But attention, the products must be 100% biodegradable (see next question).
- Simple, comfortable clothing that doesn't restrict movement. Shoes and slippers.
- Beachwear.
- If you need medicine, pads or tampons don't forget to bring them because we'll not be close to commerce and pharmacies.
- If you're sharing a suite we suggest you bring earplugs to help you rest well.
IS IT TRUE THAT THE PRODUCTS I HAVE TO TAKE HAVE TO BE 100% BIODEGRADABLE?
Yes. Read bellow Unah Piracanga's orientation about it:
"In Piracanga it is only possible to use hygiene and cleaning products that are 100% biodegradable, this includes: shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothpaste, creams, sunscreen, repellent, deodorant, makeup, etc.
Our water treatment systems are 100% natural and use banana trees to filter the water we use. Also, our water table, from where we take the water we consume, is very close to the surface, therefore any chemical that the banana trees cannot filter ends up going straight into the water we consume. We have a good variety of products available in the restaurant store to suit your needs.
Avoid bringing unnecessary packaging to Piracanga and take responsibility for giving the correct destination to whatever packaging is inevitable."
HOW WILL THE MEALS BE?
We'll be offered delicious vegan food in 3 meals included in the accommodation fee: breakfast, lunch and dinner. If you want any other particular food you'll need to bring it.
Unah Piracanga has a space where you can also buy other options during the day.
If you have any dietary restrictions, please inform them in your application.
CAN CHILDREN ALSO PARTICIPATE IN THE RETREAT?
The Retreat tries to create welcoming and inclusive environments, so we don't restrict the presence of children. At the same time, it's important to take in consideration that the activities are directed to adults and can demand attention and concentration, which sometimes children don't have.
Unfortunately we won't have activities directed to children, neither someone who will be able to stay with them while you are participating in the program, so it will be up to you to manage your participation in the activities accordingly. If you want someone to take care of the child and not participate in the activities that person will only pay for accommodations.
Check with Patricia about participation fees for children through the e-mail: retiromdc@gmail.com
WILL THERE BE TRANSPORTATION TO THE RETREAT SPACE?
For those who request it when registering, we will organize land transport from Ilhéus airport to Piracanga (about a two-hour trip).
Costs are indicated in the table of values.
WILL THE ACTIVITIES, THE ACCOMMODATIONS AND TRANSPORT BE PAID SEPARATELY?
Exactly. Activities are paid for Música do Círculo, accommodation for Unah Piracanga and transportation for local service providers.
After your registration we will send you the guidelines by email.
WILL THERE BE SCHOLARSHIPS FOR SOCIAL PROJECT EDUCATORS IN THIS EDITION?
We count on your donations in order to be able to grant scholarships to artist/teachers connected to social projects. If you want to contribute please indicate the value in your registration fee or get in touch through retiromdc@gmail.com.
