Trupés are percussive dance steps from Brazilian folk culture traditions. This workshop is an immersion into these traditions, uniting dance, body percussion, and singing in an integrated way, inspired by folk expressions from our country. Through traditional footwork, rhythms, and songs, we will connect with the expressions and knowledge that are part of Brazilian culture, exploring its diversity and depth, experimenting with different forms of expression that connect us with the cultural legacy of each region of the country​​​​​​​

Alisson Lima  is a dancer, musician, and dance teacher. He graduated in Contemporary Dance from the Grupo Experimental in Recife (PE), his hometown. With more than twenty years of artistic experience, his productions are inspired by Brazilian popular traditions and capoeira. He has developed and performed four solo dance shows and is a teacher at the Brincante Institute in São Paulo (SP). In the music scene, he works as a percussionist in various Brazilian folk culture groups.

The workshop aims to develop sensitive listening as a path to expanding musical experience. We will investigate the various timbres our bodies can produce, reproducing rhythms with them using a technique developed by Fernando Barba, founder of the Barbatuques group. We will also play listening, interaction, and creation games that will address diverse aspects to broaden and develop skills and knowledge such as motor coordination, rhythmic independence, production of sound qualities, creativity, among others.

Mairah Rocha works as a singer, percussionist, and music educator. Currently, she coordinates "Teca - Oficina de Música," teaches music education at various schools in São Paulo, and is a member of the body percussion group "BARBATUQUES," with whom she has performed and given workshops in several cities, both in Brazil and abroad. She is the co-author of children's music education books and a singer and percussionist in several other Brazilian groups.

This workshop explores how regulating the nervous system expands pleasure, vocal freedom, and connection with others. We will learn to perceive and regulate our nervous system through simple somatic practices, communicating to the body that it is in a state of biological safety, inviting your body, your inner state, and your voice to perceive how they organize themselves when this safety is present, discovering what is possible when we sing from a nervous system that feels accompanied, open, and connected.​

Maca Robledo  is a singer, functional voice educator, and nervous system therapist with a career that encompasses art, science, and somatic experience. A direct disciple of the creator of Functional Voice Education, Professor Rabine in Germany, she specializes in understanding how the body and nervous system organize the voice, creativity, and human connection. She has released six albums and creates online training programs that have established her as an international reference in the field of voice..

Come celebrate the joy of making music with friends! This session will offer participants the experience of improvising with a small group in a supportive setting, featuring gentle warmups, paired singing games to, exploration of how to create a “part” within vocal improvisation and small group singing games. Upon completing the session, participants will have some new ways to sing with friends and collaborators, and a deeper connection to the joy of group vocal improvisation. This session is appropriate for any level of familiarity with vocal improvisation.

Michael Silverstein is a multimodal improviser, composer/songwriter, and enthusiastic teacher and facilitator who is deeply energized by the power of music to foster human connection. Michael’s music-making draws on his formal studies as a composer and instrumentalist, learnings from global vocal improvisation and circle singing workshops and retreats, and improvisational comedy. He facilitates vocal improvisation jams and workshops, and performs and records in the NYC area.

In this workshop, we explore different movement qualities when transitioning between the sounds we produce in body music—an interplay of movement, voice, and choreography. The first part of the workshop is rooted in improvisation, aiming to help each participant internalize the principles. In the second part, we will focus on my latest work with my interdisciplinary group Bode Plot, and on the movement language and style that have emerged through this project—from a simple collective walking pattern to a fully developed body music ensemble.

Thanos Daskalopoulos is a leading figure in body music and tap dance in Greece, with a vibrant teaching and performing presence across the globe. Mentored by internationally acclaimed artists such as Heather Cornell, Max Pollak, and Keith Terry, his work explores the seamless integration of movement and sound within a single medium, dissolving the boundaries between the two in both solo and ensemble contexts.

Rosi Amador, born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, has dedicated over 15 years to studying vocal improvisation and body percussion with renowned teachers, including Rhiannon and Bobby McFerrin. She co-founded the Latin band Flor de Caña in 1984 and established Sol y Canto in 1994. Rosi's music can be found on YouTube and digital platforms. She lives in Cambridge, MA, with her husband Brian and their dog Pepito​​​
